Plant to Plate

One way to be prepared for an emergency is to be able to grow your own food. Spring is here - -time to exercise your faith with planting seeds! What do you like to eat? Here is a website that can help you make some good decisions for your garden this year.

Self Reliance Course Sign-ups!

 Dear Brothers and Sisters

The Lord is willing and anxious to help each of us to become self-reliant both temporally and spiritually. He has declared “It is my purpose to provide for my saints”. (D&C 104:15) The Self Reliance Initiative has been given to us by the Lord to help us navigate the uncertainties of life with skill and confidence. We hope you will prayerfully consider signing up for one of the groups. These classes have been a great blessing to many in our stake.

These courses are available to ALL members of the Stake ages 16 and up, including brothers and sisters, individuals and couples, members and non-members. No referral is needed. All meetings this session will be via Zoom due to current health restrictions.

The Stake Self-Reliance Committee is currently offering two separate courses. Classes will meet VIRTUALLY starting the week of April 18th , and are held weekly for 10-12 weeks. The two courses are:

1) Emotional Resilience (10 weeks) This course will provide guidance in establishing healthy thinking patterns, managing stress and anxiety, understanding sadness and depression, overcoming anger, managing addictive behaviors, building healthy relationships, and strengthening others.

2) Personal Finance (12 weeks) For those who want better control over their finances. Group members will learn how to eliminate debt, protect against financial hardships, and invest in the future. They will explore various tools for making sound financial decisions, create a financial plan, and following a budget.

Each course requires a commitment of two hours a week plus some time outside of class. Self-reliance groups function like a council. The classes are not taught by a teacher, but a facilitator who helps the group members review very carefully the manual for their course. The Spirit becomes the teacher.

You may review the course manuals for these groups on the following link:

https://www.churchofjesuschrist.org/self-reliance/manuals-and-videos?lang=eng

If you would like to participate in a self-reliance course, please click the following link to a google form in which you can sign-up for the course of your choice and select availability and attendance preferences:

https://forms.gle/yFrfNfwNtni6ofA46

The sign-up link will be available until Midnight on Tuesday , April 13. The groups will then be formed and you will be subsequently contacted by a facilitator for your group to arrange a meeting time (depending on your preferences). The classes will start the week of April 18. Each facilitator will work with their group to schedule around the Memorial Day holiday.

To learn more about how these courses can help you in your life, we invite you to view this video where members of the Orchard Stake share their experiences with participating in a Self Reliance Course:

Self Reliance Testimonial Video

If you have questions, please contact our Stake Self-Reliance Specialists Brian Myers (801-755-7882), Carolyn Myers ( 801-299-0959) or Todd Jones of the High Council (801-864-2002).

We testify that participation in a self-reliance course will help you pass through whatever challenges you may be facing with a greater understanding that your Heavenly Father knows you and is watching over you.

Orchard Women's Conference

“I Am a Child of God”

 Saturday, May 8, from 10:30am-12:00pm

President Jared Wendel and selected women from the stake will teach doctrine and share practical advice
inspired by this treasured children’s song.

The event will stream on YouTube channel: Orchard Stake Bountiful

“Rich blessings are in store” – President Jared Wendel
“Help me to understand His words” – Susie Gardner
“With parents kind and dear” – Laura Webster
“And so my needs are great” – Colleen Kossin

Since we cannot be together, face-to-face, a safely-prepared catered
lunch will be delivered Friday, May 7th, for you to keep in the
refrigerator and enjoy after the conference.

Please register for the conference to ensure you receive lunch. Be sure
to invite your friends, neighbors, and those you minister to. While anyone
can view conference, lunch is for those living in our stake boundary.

To prepare for this event we invite you to ask yourself daily:

- What can a daughter of God do today to help with her Father’s work?
- How did I feel my Father’s love today and what did He teach me?

Please record thoughts in your
“Live Like the Son in 2021” journal.

Please see your Ward RS President
if you did not receive a journal.
